Romance Is In The Air
I threw out a little tidbit yesterday about a man I’d met who said he was a true romantic. So much so, that it was the main reason he’d ended his last relationship…she was not as romantic.
Of course, I insisted that he share some of these grand romantic gestures. I encouraged him to go back to whatever age…7 if he’d like. He laughed and said he was a real pimp at 9 but asked if I wanted modern day typical romance stories or experiences that didn’t involve love notes but rather gestures of kindness.
The minute someone asks you to define what type of romantic gestures you are looking to hear about you know you’ve met a diehard.
Which for me, was a smack in the face. I realized I’m not a diehard romantic. It doesn’t come naturally. Don’t let me fool you…I’m waiting to be romanced just like any other girl, but do I actually bring to the table the instincts, know how, and/or material to reciprocate? Hardly.
For those of you who follow my social media, you know I love to make note of the little sweet gestures that go on in the boutique. The reasons and notions of ‘why’ someone is buying the chemise or candle…it’s downright inspirational! I won’t even lie. It’s where I’ve gotten some of my best ideas! Hey, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so…
Maybe the key isn’t for us to beat ourselves up for not being a true romantic…but if you’re given the opportunity, you better fake it ‘til you make it. Otherwise, what will you have?
